The child of ex- South African Leader Zuma has denied all charges to terrorism-related charges at the commencement of her trial in the coastal city of Durban city.

Zuma-Sambudla, 43, is being charged over remarks she posted on digital networks several years back during violent unrest in South Africa that came after the arrest of her dad.

A period of disorder in several parts of the country in July 2021, including theft and intentional burning, caused at least 300 deceased and led to damage worth an estimated 2.8 billion dollars (£2.2 billion).

Zuma-Sambudla has been charged of inciting this turmoil and confronts accusations of encouragement to commit terror-related activities and civil unrest.

Context of the Legal Matter

The demonstrations were concentrated in the provinces of Gauteng region and KwaZulu-Natal province and came after the previous president's arrest for disobeying a legal directive to give evidence at an investigation into claims of graft while he was serving as president.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has always rejected the accusations against her, with her lawyer earlier describing the state's evidence as weak.

She has also consistently claimed the accusations against her were an attempt to address political grievances with her father after he established his own political party and competed against the African National Congress.

Support and Legal Defense

This was echoed by the foundation, which stated the legal matter was an "abuse of power" and a "systematic campaign" of "political and kinship targeting" against the former president and his kin.

A handful of backers from her party, uMkhonto weSizwe, appeared outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her dad and other organization officials participated in the hearings inside.

The defendant's representatives has maintained that the evidence presented by government lawyers is insufficient and does not have concrete evidence for a conviction.
