Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza Leader Exits After Shift Towards Chicken.

The head of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the UK might have hit peak pizza while broadening the chain into chicken products has been removed after disagreements with its directors.

Leadership Shake-Up

Andrew Rennie is exiting after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be replaced on an acting basis by the company's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a permanent CEO.

Rennie, who worked for Domino's for over 20 years, had sought to shift the UK's largest pizza food delivery firm towards chicken offerings, commenting recently there was not “huge potential” left in the British pizza industry. He observed chicken was the most rapidly expanding menu item in the globe.

Board Tensions

Sources suggest that there was disagreement between the CEO and the board over his strategy and management style, although Domino's official statement said he was leaving “by mutual agreement”.

Recent Product Introduction

In September, the chain unveiled its chicken-focused offering – which the former chief referred to as a “significant new phase” for the group – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the North West region and Northern Ireland.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as intended, it views chicken products as an addition to its primary pizza operations.

Board Comment

Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a number of opportunities to boost expansion and performance improvement in our primary operations. We are focused on identifying the ideal CEO to lead the careful implementation of that growth strategy.”

Market Difficulties

Recently, Domino's, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions fell by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In the summer, it cautioned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it attributed reduced spending in the run-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut disclosed the shutting of multiple locations a month ago, after the firm behind its British operations fell into administration.

Wellness Initiatives

Responding to market shifts towards healthier eating, Domino's has launched light products, such as its Thin & Crispy range of bakes below 400 kcals as well as plant-based and wheat-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has 909 calories.

Acting Management

Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the gaming group William Hill. It is thought that she is not seeking to take on the top job permanently.

Frampton stated: “The company has a several current expansion and performance initiatives that we will be concentrating on executing at a rapid rate.”

She said these included additional efforts on the company's supply chain and product development, and its loyalty scheme.

The pizza chain is also in need of a long-term chief financial officer until the spring, when a new appointee starts from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Richard Snow is interim finance chief.
